Iowa Right to Life reports that Planned Parenthood of the Heartland will close two additional Iowa facilities on July 19, 2012—the Newton clinic and the Family Practice Center in Des Moines. The closures are in keeping with Planned Parenthood’s business plan to consolidate facilities in order to cut operating costs, as it increases it profit margin by focusing on its abortion business.
The abortion giant said in a press release that it will consolidate the Newton center into the Ankeny office. The Family Practice Center will be moved into the Planned Parenthood surgical abortion center in Des Moines.
“Their release stated that ‘this consolidation will help serve patients’ and would be ‘affordable and convenient’ to their clients. It does not make any sense to say that they will better serve their clients by telling those in Newton that they will have to drive 35 miles, at a minimum, to enter the Ankeny abortion center,” Jenifer Bowen, executive director of Iowa Right to Life, said in the press release.
The closures come on the heels of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland’s shuttering of three facilities March 1. Telemed abortion centers in Storm Lake and Knoxville were shut down and merged with other facilities. The Omaha Southwest abortion center was closed and merged with the Omaha Northwest abortion facility.
Eighteen Planned Parenthood facilities remain in Iowa. Eleven of those are abortion facilities. The abortion giant has been committing telemed abortions in Iowa since 2008, increasing its profit margin by having an abortionist remotely dispense abortion pills, then sending the woman home to suffer through days of contractions and profuse bleeding to deliver her dead baby at home, often totally alone.
STOPP representatives have been on the ground recently in Iowa and Nebraska, encouraging, strategizing, and helping form coalitions of pro-life groups who are focused specifically on shutting down Planned Parenthood of the Heartland. Kudos to all the pro-life organizations and individuals who continue to focus and fight hard to stop Planned Parenthood of the Heartland’s planned expansion.
