A new poll commissioned by the Chiaroscuro Foundation and conducted by Smith Johnson Research shows that New York City parents overwhelmingly support abstinence education and oppose the Planned Parenthood-supported program CATCH that is in place in New York City schools distributing Plan B—the morning after pill regimen.
The poll, released on Oct. 22, 2012, shows that more than 75 percent of NYC parents support abstinence education that teaches healthy relationship skills. Fifty-three percent of New Yorkers polled object to the distribution of Plan B in the schools. Noting that the poll found only 32 percent of New Yorkers who rated the performance of New York City public schools in academics excellent or good, Senator Ruben Diaz Sr. said in a press release, “This kind of social experiment has no place in the education of our children. The schools should be focused on providing a quality education to our children, not on passing out pills.”
The senator certainly hit the nail on the head. That most parents want their children to wait until marriage for sexual activity is not a new discovery. Those pushing immoral sex education will stop at nothing to convince parents, however, that those expectations are not rational, making it necessary to push explicit sex education on them.
Case in point: The University of Texas/Planned Parenthood sex ed program It’s Your Game: Keep it Real. As we reported earlier, the meeting notes of the UTPRC Community Advisory Group revealed that a “social marketing” campaign had been undertaken to spin out words and phrases that would resonate with parents and convince them to come onboard with the Planned Parenthood inspired sex ed program. The outgoing chair of that committee was the community education manager for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast.
