Planned Parenthood under siege: Protests at Planned Parenthood more than double as facility numbers sharply decline

For many years, a major part of the work of STOPP has been to emphasize to local groups fighting Planned Parenthood that the first step in any fight is to establish regularly scheduled protests or prayer vigils outside of the local Planned Parenthood facility.

Some amazing numbers have emerged over the past four years as a result of the growing emphasis on protesting at Planned Parenthood:

· At the end of 2007, Planned Parenthood operated a total of 855 clinics across the country and there were 122 regularly scheduled protests at 103 different locations in 34 states. Thus, there was a regularly scheduled protest at one out of every eight (8.3) Planned Parenthood locations.

· As of today, Planned Parenthood operates 756 clinics across the country and there are 292 regularly scheduled protests at 214 different locations in 42 states. There is now a regularly scheduled protest at one out of every four (3.5) Planned Parenthood locations.

The correlation between the increase in protests and the decline in Planned Parenthood facilities is not coincidental. As people take to the streets to inform the community in a peaceful, prayerful way that something is deadly wrong at Planned Parenthood, the abortion giant suddenly has to justify its existence and defend its position in the community—a position that is untenable and indefensible.

Peaceful, prayerful protests are the first step in a community education campaign that sheds a bright spotlight on the evil that lurks behind the doors of Planned Parenthood. And when the truth is brought out of the darkness and into the light, Planned Parenthood cannot long survive.

Congratulations to all of you who have stepped outside your comfort zone and marched bravely to the front lines of the abortion battle by protesting and praying at Planned Parenthood. As our numbers continue to swell, Planned Parenthood will continue to shrink and its funding will continue to diminish.

Our Map Room lists the protests and prayer vigils of which we are aware. If your group conducts a regular protest or vigil at Planned Parenthood and it is not on our map, please let us know so we can inform others of your presence and invite them to join you in pulling the welcome mat out from under Planned Parenthood in your community.
