Congress rewards world's largest abortion provider

"Just weeks ago, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, the world's largest abortion provider, was found to be in violation of US law," said Ed Szymkowiak, national director of STOPP International.

"Congress should have cut all funds to IPPF for violating US law," Szymkowiak said. "Instead, Congress upped global population control spending by $40 million, and dropped the Mexico City provision. This will result in more innocent babies being killed by abortion overseas." Earlier this year, IPPF gave $700,000 in US taxpayer money to groups that perform or advocate abortion, in violation of a provision of the Mexico City Policy.

In addition, Szymkowiak criticized Planned Parenthood president Gloria Feldt for claiming that the increase in foreign aid for population control "will benefit women around the globe," and will strengthen women's rights.

"The fact is, poor women of color in the developing world have virtually no rights to speak of," Szymkowiak said. "International population control programs are rife with abuses, including forced abortion and forced participation in various purportedly voluntary programs. IPPF's radical agenda would make abortion the fundamental human right worldwide. IPPF's lopsided view of the world enshrines abortion above everything else, and undercuts women's real needs. IPPF promotes killing babies by abortion. They do not stand for women."

STOPP urges citizens to contact whomever is elected president and urge him to reinstate the Mexico City Policy which prevents US taxpayer funds from going to groups that advocate or perform abortions abroad.
