Bush must oust Clinton's Surgeon General

"Clinton's surgeon general will continue to promote Clinton's pro-abortion and contraception ideology as long as he remains in office," said Ed Szymkowiak, national director of STOPP (an American Life League division) in response to Dr. David Satcher's report "The Surgeon General's Call to Action to Promote Sexual and Responsible Behavior."

"Bush must replace Clinton's surgeon general with someone who is not a mouthpiece for Planned Parenthood's agenda. How can a 'pro-life' president tolerate a surgeon general who releases a report that promotes policies that result in the killing of preborn persons?" he asked.

"By not being a pro-life president, that's how. The longer Satcher stays in office, the clearer it becomes that Bush's 'pro-life' claim was mere lip service to help him get elected," said Szymkowiak.

Satcher's report lists contributors from Planned Parenthood and several other groups that promote contraception in classroom sex education, but it is devoid of input from pro-life groups. Szymkowiak pointed out that in 1997, Senator John Ashcroft strongly opposed Satcher's confirmation because of Satcher's support for partial-birth abortion. Satcher also ignores the often abortion-inducing nature of chemical "contraception" and the physical and psychological consequences of abortion.
