Planned Parenthood to open its third surgical abortion center in Alaska
Planned Parenthood currently has four clinics in Alaska. Half of these are surgical abortion facilities. These killing centers are located in Fairbanks and Anchorage. Both facilities have regularly scheduled protests outside of them as well. The people of Alaska do not want PP in their state and this is especially apparent when there are weekly protests at its current abortion facilities and at the site of the new PP killing center planned for Juneau.
PP plans to open this new baby-killing center by the end of this summer – next to Bartlett Regional Hospital. PP is already complaining about the constant protests, organized by Alaska Right to Life, and we encourage all of you who live in Alaska to join in the fight to keep this clinic from opening!

Little Rock PP now killing preborn babies with mifepristone
The state of Arkansas currently has two Planned Parenthood facilities. One PP facility has already been killing preborn babies through a medical abortion drug and now the PP in Little Rock is doing the same. This PP clinic, located at 5921 W. 12th Street, Suite C, is now selling mifepristone to its customers.
How does mifepristone work? During pregnancy, the preborn baby requires a chemical called progesterone. This chemical is produced naturally in the mother's body. It is so valuable to the baby's proper growth and development that some call it "nature's pregnancy hormone."
Mifepristone works against this hormone. It breaks down and then destroys the surroundings the baby has established within his mother's womb, and eventually destroys the baby as well. The chemical cuts off nourishment to the preborn child, who starves to death inside his mother's womb.
But mifepristone does not work alone. A second chemical is also involved. The second chemical – misoprostol – causes cramping and contractions. After mifepristone has killed the tiny boy or girl through starvation, this second chemical is designed to push the dead baby out of the mother's womb.

Iowa protesters reveal that PP might sneak in mifepristone
Kim Lehman, president of Iowa Right to Life, organized a protest outside of the Planned Parenthood clinic in Spencer because she had heard that this facility may offer mifepristone in the near future, and she wanted her community to be aware of this deadly possibility. And she even got media attention!
Pro-lifers believe PP is trying to sneak in and give mifepristone (RU-486) to young mothers. Planned Parenthood is known to do things quietly – in fact, flat out lie on applications when applying for land permits. It wouldn't be very surprising if PP does in fact plan to begin handing out the medical abortion drug, mifepristone.
As the Daily Reporter mentions, the PP facility in Spencer is located in a former shopping mall, which includes community college classrooms and professional offices. PP may offer medical abortions near college classrooms? This would hardly be a first. PP's main target is young women under the age of 25.
We congratulate Kim Lehman and Iowa Right to Life for a successful protest and pray for the success of her efforts against Planned Parenthood!

Pence Amendment is expected this summer
This summer, Rep. Mike Pence is expected to offer an amendment to the appropriations bill that funds the Department of Labor and the Department of Health and Human Services. The amendment is designed to prohibit taxpayer dollars from being used to fund Planned Parenthood. As you may remember, Rep. Pence offered this same amendment last summer, and Congress did vote on the Pence Amendment, but it failed by a vote of 189-231.
While the amendment failed, it is important to remember that there are 435 total congressmen. That means an amendment needs 218 votes to pass, if all members are present. In other words, if the Pence Amendment had a mere 29 more votes, it would have passed.
We encourage you to find out how your congressman voted and contact him or her. To view the final results of this vote that took place last summer, go to http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/roll684.xml.
If your representative supported this amendment, thank him or her for fighting PP. If your congressman did not support the amendment, please contact him or her and educate him or her about why you oppose PP. Also, encourage your representative to take away all government funding for this abortion giant's deadly and perverse operations. The following are some key points to mention:
- Planned Parenthood is not effective in lowering unintended pregnancy rates.

Example: Planned Parenthood continually performs more abortions each year, while the nationwide abortion rate drops. Abortion constitutes one-third of Planned Parenthood's clinic income, which is their largest source of funding.
- Planned Parenthood promotes pornographic, obscene material for use by children.

Defeating government funding of PP – Part 1: Get the facts
Many local Planned Parenthood affiliates were struggling and about to close in the 1960s, due to a lack of funds. It was then that President Lyndon Johnson's administration gave the first federal money to a PP affiliate in Texas. Since that time, PP has flourished and has become an expert at latching onto government funding programs.
If we are to make a serious attempt to lessen PP's influence, we must put a stop to the flow of government money into its coffers. The place to start this effort is in your own community.
When citizens begin to realize how much of their taxes wind up in PP’s bank account, they begin to ask questions:
1. Is my local government contributing to PP?
2. How can I find out how much PP is getting?
3. What can I do about it?
As you consider fighting government funding of PP, you should understand that this fight is a bit different from others in which you may have been involved. This is not specifically a fight against abortion. This is not specifically a pro-life fight. This is not specifically a fight against all sex education programs.
This is a fight against government funding of a specific organization. It is you telling your elected officials you do not want any of your money going to PP. This does not mean that you can't criticize PP for its abortion business or for its sex education or for its anti-life activity. It means, however, that the focus should always be on PP and its activities. The fight should always be based on the message that government officials have no right to give your money to PP. If you keep the issue clear, you will get support from all sides.
How to get the facts:
1. Determine if any local monies are going to Planned Parenthood. There are several methods of finding out this information. First, you can get a copy of your municipal or county budget and see if PP is listed. A quicker and perhaps more thorough method is to write a letter to your local comptroller and ask, "under the Freedom of Information Act," for a list of all contracts between your local government and PP. If you determine that there are contracts between your government and PP, ask for copies of all the contracts. Read them to understand exactly what PP is being paid to do. Also, all government agencies require those entities with contracts to file reports on the results of the contract (these will be at least annual reports, and sometimes the reports are filed quarterly). Ask for copies of all reports filed by PP regarding its contracts. Read these reports carefully – they will tell you a great deal about PP's operation, and the success or failure of its programs.
2. Since most local funding will involve Planned Parenthood educational programs, take time at the beginning to collect samples of pamphlets from your local PP. You should pick up samples of material from PP display tables at local fairs or conferences. You should also have people go into PP and ask for material dealing with sex to give to a teen or preteen. Gather as much material as possible, and then read through it all.
3. Before you begin to read the Planned Parenthood material, spend some time in prayer. Much of PP's rhetoric is designed to camouflage its real intent. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you the wisdom to see through the rhetoric and the understanding to know how the material is harmful. As you read through each piece, make notes as the Spirit directs you.
Some of the material may be innocuous. Put these aside. Many of the subjects, however, will be clearly offensive. You should note every pamphlet that contains offensive material. Some will be subtly offensive (requiring an informed reader to discern its offensive nature) while others will be blatantly offensive. The blatant pieces usually require no deep explanation. The nearly pornographic pictures or the outrageous statements are clear enough that any responsible person would see it as offensive. PP’s web site for teens www.teenwire.com is particularly nauseating.

Rock for Life's summer tour
Rock for Life, American Life League’s youth outreach department, is sending five young people across the United States this summer to educate our youth on the truth about abortion, birth control and Planned Parenthood. These young people will be traveling over 8,300 miles to promote the pro-life message at 11 Christian music festivals, host over 14 pro-life prayer and visibility events outside of PP and other abortion facilities, and meet up with several other pro-life groups.

Protest the Pill Day a smashing success!
Thank you to all who participated in Protest the Pill Day '08: The Pill Kills Babies on June 7. We had a successful press conference on June 6 at the National Press Club in Washington D.C., and the opposition was so angry about us getting the truth out about the pill that it even organized counter-protests on June 7.

American Life League joined some local protesters in Washington, D.C. outside of a Planned Parenthood clinic, and it was very educational. We spoke to people from the opposition as well as reporters. People who went by saw our signs and  were educated about the fact that the pill can in fact kill preborn babies.
