Planned Parenthood-California's friends in high places

For the most part, Planned Parenthood seems to be allowed to run rampant in California. Its influence in the state, especially among bureaucrats and lawmakers, is astounding.

Several years ago, an independent abortionist sued PP, alleging that PP was not following the law and was "stealing" abortion customers from his abortion operation. During a weeklong trial in which it became obvious that PP was, indeed, breaking the law, the California legislature passed a bill which legalized what PP was doing. End of lawsuit.

In 2004, the State of California conducted an audit of PP's operations and found that one of its affiliates had overcharged the Medi-Cal program by $5 million. You might think PP would have had to pay back the money, but that was not the case. After discussions with PP, the state agency decided it was just a mistake caused by confusion over what the word "cost" meant. So, PP did not have to give back any money, and the state rewrote the regulations so that PP could continue charging the state exhorbitant amounts.

Now, word comes that PP was upset that its clinics had to pass a health department inspection before it could open them for business. No problem – the state legislature recently unanimously passed a bill that allows PP to open its doors without any inspections.

Despite all of this, PP experienced a major setback in California last year when it tried to bully the state into giving it more money. Pro-lifers were able to turn back the PP juggernaut. We expect that we will see more of this as the "climate" changes in California and people there begin to experience the displeasure with PP's programs that people in other states across the country have experienced.

Is the media starting to figure out about Planned Parenthood?

Last week, we reported on how the Wall Street Journal exposed Planned Parenthood's increased abortion business and focus on lower-income women, and now another report points out its abortion numbers and its new quest to attract affluent customers in suburbs.

The Chronicle, a Houston, Texas newspaper, highlighted PP's plan to move into a 75,000-square-foot [78,000-square-foot – Ed.], six-story killing center. It mentions PP's $1 billion in annual revenue and the number of babies it killed in 2006 (289,750) and also focuses on PP's attempt to make its facilities more attractive, in order to lure in the well-to-d0.

Peter Durkin, chief executive of Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas said, "It is our responsibility to appeal to everyone, from those who hold Medicaid cards to those with American Express cards." That's right: Planned Parenthood is after all types of young people, rich or poor.

Planned Parenthood to open in Charleston, South Carolina

Planned Parenthood plans to open a new facility at 200 Rutledge Avenue in Charleston, South Carolina this fall. Currently, Planned Parenthood only has one facility in the entire state. That abortion facility is located at 2712 Middleburg Drive #107, Columbia, South Carolina.

We are currently working with people in the area who want to keep Planned Parenthood out or at least minimize PP's impact, if it does open a facility. We will keep everyone informed as things develop there.

Say what? Planned Parenthood quote of the week

Planned Parenthood's own president, Cecile Richards, sent out an e-mail Monday morning asking for money. In bold letters, she wrote, "Your support is the lifeblood of this organization – quite literally, you keep us going." She continued, "Your dollars, of course, are critical to our work." No joke, this is word for word from Planned Parenthood. Richards is basically saying, "Your money is blood money. Thank you for giving us your money so we can continue to kill 5,572 innocent human beings every week. Your donations have helped us murder 4,358,499 babies."

Perhaps that's what Planned Parenthood really means when it says that donations are critical to its "work."

Planned Parenthood merger in Pennsylvania

Two Planned Parenthood affiliates, Planned Parenthood of Northeast Pennsylvania and Planned Parenthood of the Susquehanna Valley, have merged into Planned Parenthood of Northeast and Mid-Penn. The merger affects a total of 13 clinics. Of these, only one facility commits surgical abortions and one other commits medical abortions. There is a possibility that PP may open an additional clinic in New Bloomfield.

PP now has a total of 102 affiliates across the United States. This number continues to fall. Praise God. As we learn more, we will keep you up to date.

Defeating government funding of Planned Parenthood – Part 4: Get people involved

For the past three weeks, we have been presenting information on how to defeat government funding of Planned Parenthood. This week, we focus on how to get the people in your community involved during the time leading up to a vote on funding PP.

1. Once you have a vote scheduled, you can take advantage of all the groundwork you have done. Four weeks before the scheduled vote, send a letter (or e-mail) to everyone on your mailing list, informing them of the upcoming vote and telling them you need their support. Ask them to contact their elected official and ask him or her to vote against money for PP. Send a second letter a week prior to the vote.

2. During the week prior to the vote, have your people make phone calls to the politicians. It is important that these be polite phone calls simply asking the politician to vote against money for PP. Tell your people not to call after 9:00 p.m. and to always be courteous. If the politician has an answering machine, simply leave a message that you want him or her to vote against money for PP. These phone calls during the final week are very effective, if done correctly.

3. Encourage your supporters to make personal visits, in addition to phone calls. Again, this should be done in a courteous way. Meet your elected official face to face, and ask for his or her support in defeating PP's funding.

4. Get people out to the vote or to the public hearing preceding the vote. Three days before the public hearing, make phone calls to your supporters and tell them it is important for them to be at the meeting. Tell them to come even if they do not want to speak. Encourage them to speak if they want to and that they need only walk to the microphone and say, "Do not give any money to Planned Parenthood." With a number of speakers and an even greater number applauding every time your side speaks, the message will get across. We cannot stress too much the importance of phoning your supporters and asking them to come. Your numbers will dramatically increase if you do this.

You should also tell your supporters that the appropriate response, when PP supporters get up and talk about how they deserve the money, is silence. It hurts your cause if your people boo or interrupt a PP speaker. Your silence is the best witness to the sincerity of your cause.

African-American leaders demand that politicians refuse money from Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood has publicly stated that it intends to spend $10 million during this year's election cycle to help elect people who support PP's agenda.

A large group of African-American pastors, leaders and pro-lifers marched on Capitol Hill last week, demanding that candidates refuse the money from PP.

Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., has been involved in the fight against PP and says that the work PP is doing is "anti-civil rights." The message of Dr. Alveda King and other members of the African-American community is that Planned Parenthood is spearheading genocide of the black race and that its money comes from the blood of innocent children. The web site OneNewsNow.com points out, "Statistics indicate that out of the 50 million unborn babies who have been killed through abortion, approximately 15 million were African-American."

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2004, 38.2 percent of American women who obtained abortions were black mothers. According to the 2000 U.S. Census, black women ages 15 to 44 only make up 12.3 percent of the total number of American women.

Planned Parenthood is a racist organization, and pro-lifers have had enough. This recent protest was one of many that African-Americans have organized. In April, African-American leaders also held a press conference and protest to tell Congress not to give our tax dollars to Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood loses in South Dakota

A 2005 law that would require doctors to inform mothers who are looking to abort their babies that abortion will "terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being" is now going into effect in the state of South Dakota.

Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Planned Parenthood Federation of America challenged this law, but the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, in St. Louis, overturned the injunction, and now mothers must be informed that abortion actually kills their child.

Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota's president, Sarah Stoesz, complained, "They are imposing compelled speech on doctors. It is not about providing information to women. It is about intruding in the doctor-patient relationship. It is unprecedented and extremely outrageous."

Yes, PP views informing mothers that they actually have a baby inside of them as "outrageous." But this should not surprise us, because PP, of course, wants to continue lying to its customers and killing innocent preborn babies without their mothers even knowing it.

Happy Fourth of July!

For the love of God, for the love of our babies, for the love of our America – Happy Fourth of July!
