New Planned Parenthood guide pushes more "safer sex" programs to youth

Last week, at the International AIDS Conference in Mexico City, a guide calling for more "safer sex" education for our young people was launched. The 10-step guide, called Make it matter, was produced by the International Planned Parenthood Federation in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund and Young Positives. The guide presents 10 "messages" supposedly aimed at preventing HIV in girls and young women, along with three goals, one of which is to "improve the accessibility of sexual and reproductive health services for girls and young women."

One of the guide's messages is "Make sexual and reproductive health services youth friendly." Any Planned Parenthood programs or "services" geared towards young people are certainly something we would NOT want our children near. Even worse, another of the 10 messages is "Scale up key HIV prevention services, especially the provision of voluntary counseling and testing and female/male condoms." If the International Planned Parenthood Federation really wants to prevent the spread of HIV among young girls, passing out condoms is not the answer. According to Victor R. Claveau, MJ, author of Birth Control and Abortifacients,

HIV is so small that two million of the disease-causing agents could crowd on a period at the end of a sentence… latex condoms have tiny intrinsic holes called "voids" in them. Sperm is larger than the holes, but the AIDS virus is 50 times smaller than these tiny holes, which makes it easy for the virus to pass through.

"Safer sex" means more condoms and birth control. Our young people worldwide do not need more condoms; they need to be educated with the message of chastity and self-respect.

Health and Human Services caves in to PP's pressure

Last week, we reported that Planned Parenthood was frantic about the proposed regulation that would deny federal funding to any healthcare provider that does not allow its employees to opt out of providing services that could result in an abortion. This new proposal also included a definition of abortion.

However, Mike Leavitt, secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has given in to pressure from Planned Parenthood Federation of America, NARAL Pro-Choice America and drug companies that produce birth control. He has been pressured into rewriting this proposal because, as he said on his blog, "It contained words that lead some to conclude my intent is to deal with the subject of contraceptives, somehow defining them as abortion. Not true."

What Mike Leavitt fails to mention is that Plan B, the IUD, the birth control pill and other birth control products can cause early abortions. This proposed regulation would have defined abortion as "any of the various procedures – including the prescription, dispensing and administration of any drug or the performance of any procedure or any other action – that results in the termination of the life of a human being in utero between conception and natural birth, whether before or after implantation."

Leavitt's recent blog posting includes a nod to Planned Parenthood, which shows how hard PP worked to get this proposal changed:

I'm delighted to announce that with the help of Planned Parenthood, my blog – for the first time – received more visits than my teenage son's MySpace page. Perhaps I'll address the subject of physician conscience one more time.

To view the rest of his blog entry on this topic, go to http://secretarysblog.hhs.gov/.

The final draft of the proposal has not been issued yet, so please contact Secretary Leavitt and explain why it is important to stick with the original draft that included the abortion definition. You can do this by leaving a comment on his blog or contacting him using the information below.

Iowa 24-hour prayer/fasting event starts today

Last week, we reported on Planned Parenthood's plans to open a new center in Dubuque, Iowa, yet PP will not disclose when it will open or where it will locate this new center. Why? Could it be because there are a lot of people in this community who do NOT want it? As we reported last week, the people of Dubuque helped prevent PP from moving into town once before, and we are seeing that take place again.

Starting today, August 13, at 4:00 PM and lasting until 4:00 PM tomorrow, August 14, there will be a prayer and fasting event at Dubuque Community Church, 3490 Keystone Drive in Dubuque. If you are unable to attend this 24-hour prayer and fasting event, be sure to participate in your own way wherever you live.

Denver prayer vigil on August 25

On Monday, August 25, the Archdiocese of Denver's Respect Life and Black Catholic Ministry offices are encouraging people to attend a prayer vigil at Martin Luther King Park, at East 38th Avenue and Newport Street in Denver, Colorado, beginning at 7:30 PM. The park is located one block west of the new, 50,000-square-foot Planned Parenthood killing center.

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap., will lead the prayer vigil along with Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Following the prayer vigil, people will gather around the Planned Parenthood clinic for a candlelight rally. For more information, call 303-715-3205.

Stories from YOU

We received the following story from Rita Smith in Pennsylvania, which shows how God can bring people into our lives when we do not even expect it.

My sister, Theresa Leitold, M.E.V. and myself were witnessing at PP, 9:45 AM – 10:45 AM, on Saturday June 21 and a husband and wife came over to us and said that the picture we were taking need[ed] something and I said what may that be, he said more people.

We proceeded to introduce ourselves after he had taken the picture with our Pray to End Abortion banner and during our conversation he handed me $100 and my sister $100.00, and at the end of our conversation he handed me another $110.00 and my sister, Theresa $100.00 to give to the charity of our choice for pro-life. Total contribution $410.00

Missionaries of the Gospel of Life was sent a donation of $200.00 and the other $200.00 registration for "40 Days for Life" for the fall. The extra $10.00 went to copying expenses for Cenacles of Life that is held on Tuesday's 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at St. Eleanor's Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. Praise God for the generosity of this kind couple for life!

California judge rules against Planned Parenthood

In California, Planned Parenthood's latest attempt to prevent people from learning about the horrors of abortion has failed. Thanks to a California judge, Planned Parenthood was unable to stop the mailing of over 13 million voter pamphlets containing accounts of Planned Parenthood's failure to report cases of young girls being forced into having abortions at its killing centers.

It is good to see that even in California, Planned Parenthood cannot hide the fact that it covers up rape and victimizes these young girls again by killing their innocent children.

$2.78 million awarded in suit against Planned Parenthood

Dana Asbury, a 39-year-old mother, has been awarded $2.78 million for several medical problems that started at a Planned Parenthood facility. According to the Delco Times, Ms. Asbury was awarded this money for damages done by two physicians, Dr. Joel Lebed, who was associated with Planned Parenthood of Philadelphia, and Dr. Richard Kanoff, a neurosurgeon with Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby.

Ms. Asbury went to a Philadelphia Planned Parenthood clinic in 2003 to have abortifacient contraceptive implant rods removed from her arm. Dr. Lebed attempted to remove the rods, but was unsuccessful. Another PP "doctor" removed the rods, but Ms. Asbury experienced "horrific" pain in her arm, which eventually spread throughout the entire left side of her body. This led to a diagnosis of "complex regional pain syndrome," and she had difficulty with her balance.

In 2004, Dr. Kanoff advised Ms. Asbury to have neck surgery, which her attorney claims was unnecessary and "worsened her condition."

The most commonly used abortifacient rod is called Implanon, which is inserted under the skin of the upper arm. It contains a synthetic hormone called etonogestrel that is released into the body over a three-year period. Not only can Implanon cause chemical abortions, but it can also increase blood pressure and increase a woman's chance of getting blood clots.
