In the face of the Supreme Court’s unjust ruling affirming portions of Obamacare, Texas governor Rick Perry has issued a strong statement to U.S. Secretary of State Kathleen Sebelius, decrying the federal government’s overstepping into areas of state sovereignty, saying in no uncertain terms that Texas will not implement a state insurance exchange and will not participate in the huge planned expansion of Medicaid that would bathe Planned Parenthood in tax dollars while bankrupting the state. He said, in part:

In the ObamaCare plan, the federal government sought to force the states to expand their Medicaid programs by—in the words of the Supreme Court—putting a gun to their heads. Now that the “gun to the head” has been removed, please relay this message to the president: I oppose both the expansion of Medicaid as provided in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the creation of a so-called “state” insurance exchange, because both represent brazen intrusions into the sovereignty of our state.

I stand proudly with the growing chorus of governors who reject the PPACA power grab. Thank God and our nation’s founders that we have the right to do so.

Neither a “state” exchange nor the expansion of Medicaid under the Orwellian-named PPACA would result in better “patient protection” or in more “affordable care.” What they would do is make Texas a mere appendage of the federal government when it comes to healthcare.

Texans have worked hard and successfully to exclude Planned Parenthood from taxpayer funding. In 2011, the state legislature passed measures that defund the abortion giant by as much as $58 million over a two-year period. Because of that defunding, Planned Parenthood has been forced to close multiple facilities across the state.

Joe Pojman, head of Texas Alliance for Life, pointed out the extreme danger that looms in the wake of the huge Medicaid expansion offered to states through Obamacare:

The wave of Medicaid funds that Planned Parenthood will receive [under Obamacare] will wash away all of these pro-life gains like a huge tsunami of tax dollars.

Planned Parenthood will again receive tens of millions of tax dollars every year in Texas. While they cannot use the funds to directly pay for abortions, they will use the funds to promote abortions at their 14 abortion facilities in Dallas, Austin, Fort Worth, Midland, San Antonio, Abilene, Houston, and many other Texas communities.

Millions of tax dollars and thousands of lives are at stake!

Kudos to Governor Perry for taking a strong stand against Medicaid expansion and a “state” insurance exchange.
