Activist judges usurping states' rights; blocking Planned Parenthood defunding

October has been a busy month for judges overstepping states’ rights in an attempt to force them to continue funding Planned Parenthood. After the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals said recently that Texas can indeed defund Planned Parenthood, the abortion giant filed yet another lawsuit, this time before a state district judge, who has enjoined the state of Texas from defunding PP pending a November hearing.

It is being reported that the judge announced from the bench that she is a Planned Parenthood supporter—and failed to recuse herself—before ruling in favor of the abortion organization.

The L.A. Times quoted Texas governor Rick Perry, who showed no signs of wavering in his opposition to Planned Parenthood:

“If there was ever any doubt that Planned Parenthood is more concerned about its own interests than those of Texas women, there is no longer,” Perry said in a statement Friday. “Having lost on its constitutional claims, Planned Parenthood has now turned to Travis County judges in a desperate effort to find some way to keep making money off Texas taxpayers. In Texas, we’ve chosen to protect innocent life. We will keep fighting for life, and we will ultimately prevail.”

Additionally, on October 19, a federal judge temporarily blocked the state of Arizona from defunding Planned Parenthood.

Blocking defunding efforts in Indiana, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily upheld an injunction on October 23 that prevents the state from blocking Planned Parenthood’s participation in the Medicaid program, pending a trial on the merits of the case.

It is time for the federal government to step out of decisions that rightly belong to the states. In the meantime, states that keep fighting for their rights are paving the way for the defunding of Planned Parenthood across the nation. Without taxpayer money, the abortion giant will fall.
