Planned Parenthood facilities are closing at breakneck speed, as pro-life forces, bolstered by American Life League’s Bringing Jesus to Planned Parenthood through Mary campaign, place Mary front and center of the battle against the abortion giant. Thirteen Planned Parenthood facilities closed in the 43-day period between July 19 and September 1, 2013, of which we are aware. There may be more. Clearly, the victories that unfold day by day across our nation, as more Planned Parenthood facilities close, are a fruit of that trust in Our Lady.

In Texas, where STOPP has spent more time working directly with local pro-life groups than in any other state, the Planned Parenthood closures have been particularly rapid-fire.

Pro-life forces in Midland, Texas, welcomed the announcement of the closure of the Planned Parenthood abortion facility there August 30. Advocates in the Midland/Odessa area have fought valiantly for the closure, bringing Jesus to Planned Parenthood through Mary every step of the way. Planned Parenthood of West Texas cited political “attacks from state lawmakers,” in announcing the closure. The West Texas affiliate also closed its San Angelo office, effective August 30. The geographical area of the Diocese of San Angelo is now Planned Parenthood-free!

San Angelo Bishop Michael Pfeifer acknowledged Our Lady’s role in the closures, setting up a rosary vigil for August 30 outside the Midland facility: “On the day of the closing of Planned Parenthood in Midland, Friday, August 30, 2013,” Bishop Pfeifer said in an online statement, “I ask that our priests and all of our people gather in front of Planned Parenthood at 12 Noon, with the special Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Midland, to offer a Rosary of Thanksgiving to Christ and our Blessed Mother for bringing an end to abortions in the city of Midland.”

Bishop Pfeifer has been particularly visible in the fight against Planned Parenthood in Midland, Odessa, and San Angelo, leading by example, bringing the Church and Our Lady to the gates of Planned Parenthood. He faithfully celebrated Mass and led prayer vigils and Eucharistic adoration outside the Planned Parenthood facilities within the geographical area of his diocese. STOPP has been privileged to collaborate through the years with those working and praying to eliminate Planned Parenthood from the area.

Thanks to Pro-Life Waco’s John Pisciotta, STOPP has also discovered that Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas in August closed centers in Burleson and Corsicana, Texas, apparently with no public announcement and no fanfare. Planned Parenthood’s Bryan, Texas, facility—the home of the now international 40 Days for Life movement—closed effective August 1, as did centers in Lufkin and Huntsville. STOPP’s Jim Sedlak will be a featured speaker at the September 7 celebration of the Bryan closure.

Also included on the closure list is Planned Parenthood’s facility in Essex County, New York, where the abortion giant closed its Ticonderoga facility on August 27, 2013.

In addition, Planned Parenthood closed its Johnson Creek facility in Wisconsin effective July 19, 2013. Johnson Creek was the last of four Wisconsin facilities scheduled to be closed between April and July of 2013. Our American Life League Associate group Pro-Life Wisconsin played an important role in this victory.

In Colorado, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains announced the closure of its Eastside center in Colorado Springs and the LaJunta location effective September 1. Here again we see that the bishop of the diocese, Michael Sheridan, is extremely outspoken and actively fighting against Planned Parenthood. Fr. Bill Carmody, respect life director for the Diocese of Colorado Springs, has also been highly visible in the fight against Planned Parenthood. Countless rosaries have been prayed, and continue to be prayed, for an end to Planned Parenthood, as the faithful bring Jesus to Planned Parenthood through Mary.

The announcement of the Colorado closures referred to the “strategic decision” and specifically mentioned the abortion giant’s fight against two personhood initiatives in the state. The press release also referenced a Las Vegas, Nevada, facility that will close as well.

And in Manville, New Jersey, Planned Parenthood closed its doors permanently on August 16, according to a notice found on the office window. Officials at Planned Parenthood of Central and Greater Northern New Jersey declined to comment on the closing, according to a news story at NJ.com. New Jersey has been stripping millions of dollars of Planned Parenthood funding consistently since 2010.

All of this goes to show that STOPP’s plan to close Planned Parenthood is spot-on. Among our most salient points: 1) Planned Parenthood will not thrive in an area where there is an intense, unrelenting campaign to bring Jesus to Planned Parenthood through Mary, 2) Planned Parenthood cannot survive without government funding, and 3) shining a light on the personhood of the preborn is among Planned Parenthood’s worst nightmares. On-site prayer works! Defunding works! Personhood is key! The three work hand in hand to bring an end to Planned Parenthood. Congratulations to all who put Mary in the lead in this battle against good and evil, against life and death!
