A national boycott of Girl Scout cookies led by Dr. John Pisciotta, head of ALL Associate group Pro-Life Waco, is attracting intense media attention. Joining Pro-Life Waco in the boycott are national pro-life groups American Life League, the Radiance Foundation, the Pro-Life Action League, LifeNews, Operation Rescue, the National Black Pro-Life Union, pro-life blogger Jill Stanek, Life Coalition International, and Issues4Life Foundation.
“The Girl Scouts was once a trusted organization dedicated to character building in young girls and women. Now, GSUSA is abusing that trust,” said Judie Brown, president of ALL. “Most parents and grandparents remain painfully unaware that GSUSA has introduced so-called ‘family planning’ ideology in its curriculum and promotes groups like Planned Parenthood to our daughters and granddaughters.”
Sales from the annual cookie sale fundraiser bring in approximately $5 million annually for Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA). GSUSA is the largest member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, which advocates for “affordable, accessible, safe abortion.” GSUSA directly participated in a United Nations workshop in 2010 where the Planned Parenthood sex education pamphlet Happy, Healthy, and Hot was distributed. The pamphlet instructs young girls not to think of sex as “just about vaginal or anal intercourse.” It continued, “There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore, and be yourself!” It also advised the young girls that they have the right to decide when, and if, to disclose their positive HIV status to partners.
Local troops retain only 10 to 20 percent of the money from the sales, with the majority of the remainder passed up to councils. GSUSA collects a royalty payment based upon their licensed trademark on every box of cookies produced. Consider that 200 million boxes of cookies are sold annually and the cookie licensing payments account for five to seven percent of GSUSA’s budget. This amounts to upwards of five million dollars in funding for GSUSA every year.
Most recently, Girl Scouts came under fire for tweeting about a Huffington Post video promoting Wendy Davis as a candidate for Woman of the Year for 2013. Davis is the Texas senator who led a filibuster on behalf of Planned Parenthood and its cohorts to stop a Texas ban on aborting some babies past 20 weeks gestation.
Organizers of the Girl Scout cookie boycott have provided a printable flier on their website to be distributed to adults who are with the girls selling the cookies, explaining the reasons for the boycott. We encourage everyone to print the flier and join the boycott.
American Life League maintains a web page detailing the connections between Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood. Join in the boycott today, and help inform parents why Girl Scouts is no longer a viable organization for the moral, healthy formation of girls.
