Led by Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon, 18 Democratic members of the United States Senate are trying to pass a resolution in the Senate to honor Planned Parenthood on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. This is clearly an effort to give Planned Parenthood some positive publicity and to try to restore its public image. However, how do you restore the image of an organization that kills over 320,000 babies a year, sells baby body parts, and is—as the resolution notes—the largest provider of sex education in the country? These are the sex education programs that rob young people of their innocence, lead to increases in sexually transmitted diseases, and, as we noted last month, do not achieve any of their stated goals.
The members of the Senate pushing this resolution include: Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore.; Patty Murray, D-Wash.; Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn.; Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio; Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H.; Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii; Al Franken, D-Minn.; Michael Bennet, D-Colo.; Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y.; Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.; Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis.; Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.; Patrick Leahy, D-Vt.; Cory Booker, D-N.J.; Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y.; Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.; Dick Durbin, D-Ill.; Maria Cantwell, D-Wash.; and Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.
Action item: We encourage you to contact your US Senators and tell them you do not want them to support this resolution.
