Planned Parenthood Created Indiana Girl Scouts Sex Ed Program
Yet another link between the Planned Parenthood abortion business and the Girl Scouts has come to light and it is giving pro-life advocates further pause about their involvement in the organization.  Indiana Right to Life has learned the city of Bloomington, Indiana web site in 2009 reported the direct involvement of a Planned Parenthood “health and sexuality” educator in the development of a Girl Scouts program targeted to girls as young as five years-old.

Denver bishop: Girl scouts could make girls more open to pro-abortion agenda
A Denver Catholic bishop is warning parents that membership in the Girl Scouts could carry the danger of making their daughters more receptive to the pro-abortion agenda.  In a Wednesday column for the Denver Catholic Register, Denver Auxiliary Bishop James D. Conley observes that in the last year a growing number of parents and youth ministers have shared concerns with him over the Girl Scouts alignment with groups advocating abortion.  He urges parents to browse for themselves the websites of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) to see the organization’s approach to “sexuality, ‘choice’, and reproductive issues,” saying this exercise “may be a sobering experience.”

UPDATE February 3, 2011

Long considered a paragon of virtue and as American as apple pie, in the last decades the Girl Scouts have taken a sharp left turn. Today's Girl Scouts have lost the traditional moorings established by Juliette Low and now mirror the ideals of Gloria Steinem.

UPDATE October 18, 2010

You may be thinking that the Girl Scouts aren't controversial. These cute little girls who sell you cookies are all sugar and spice and everything nice, right? Well, not if the current generation of Girl Scout leaders has anything to say about it. For they hope to make these little girls the "shock troops" of an ongoing feminist revolution.

"Planned Parenthood tries to stamp out pro-abstinence "infiltrators" at United Nations Conference on Youth" an article in The Wednesday STOPP Report provides one more example of the Girl Scouts collaboration with the United Nations and Planned Parenthood, and shows how those organizations are targeting our daughters and granddaughters through youth organizations such as Girl Scouts to push their radical agenda of "sexual rights."

Girl Scouts Ties with Planned Parenthood Extensive and Long-Standing
By Terrence McKeegan, J.D.
(NEW YORK C-FAM) The scandal surrounding the Girl Scouts distribution of an International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) sex guide at the UN Beijing +15 Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) continues to grow.

The Girl Scouts continue to deny they had any involvement in the distribution of the brochure and have offered various responses at different times. They claim they did not "hand out" the brochure, though they were never charged with handing it out. They claim they did not look in the trash or otherwise "sanitize the room" before they used it and say another group could have left it. And they have said the brochure was simply not in the room.

Girl Scouts Distribute Planned Parenthood Sex Guide at UN Meeting
By Terrence McKeegan, J.D.
(NEW YORK C-FAM) The World Association of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides hosted a no-adults-welcome panel at the United Nations this week where Planned Parenthood was allowed to distribute a brochure entitled "Healthy, Happy and Hot." The event was part of the annual United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) which concludes this week.

The brochure, aimed at young people living with HIV, contains explicit and graphic details on sex, as well as the promotion of casual sex in many forms. The brochure claims, "Many people think sex is just about vaginal or anal intercourse But, there are lots of different ways to have sex and lots of different types of sex. There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!" The brochure goes on to encourage young people to "Improve your sex life by getting to know your own body. Play with yourself! Masturbation is a great way to find out more about your body and what you find sexually stimulating. Mix things up by using different kinds of touch from very soft to hard. Talk about or act out your fantasies. Talk dirty to them."

The brochure also tells students that national laws requiring HIV-positive people to reveal their status to their partner(s) "violate the rights of people living with HIV" and calls for advocacy to "change laws that violate your rights." It explains, "There are many reasons that people do not share their HIV status. They may worry that people will find out something else they have kept secret, like they are using injecting drugs, having sex outside of a marriage or having sex with people of the same gender."

The Girl Scouts, along with the YMCA have been co-moderating a young womens caucus that included an "Intergenerational Conversation" side event on "universal access" and "reproductive health." One recent Girl Scout project "aims at securing the right of women, men and adolescents aged between ten and twenty-five, to better reproductive and sexual health."

Also at CSW last week, the heads of various powerful UN agencies including the UN Population Fund, UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), UN Children's Fund and the World Health Organization released a "UN Joint Statement" under the name of the "UN Adolescent Girls Task Force," which calls for their agencies to promote and support programs "that empower adolescent girls, particularly those aged 10 to 14 years." One of the chief priorities for empowerment is ensuring access to "life-skills based sexuality education, HIV prevention, and sexual and reproductive health."

The New York Times recently reported that UN Population Fund had co-sponsored a very controversial curriculum with UNESCO, that included teaching children as young as five to be sexually active and training adolescents to advocate for abortion.

Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women of America told the Friday Fax, "Governments and NGOs should be aware of Planned Parenthoods insidious plan to work with UN agencies and girls organizations in order to profit from encouraging kids to be sexually active."

In 2004, American Life League's STOPP International conducted a study of Girl Scout councils throughout the United States in an effort to identify which councils have a relationship with Planned Parenthood. Our study was opposed by the national office of the Girl Scouts of the USA, the leader of which publicly stated that GSUSA has no problem if its councils or troops use Planned Parenthood to impart information to the girls. After several months, we were able to obtain data onalmost half the Girl Scout Councils in the country and found that about 20% had some type of relationship with Planned Parenthood.

In our research, we found that relationships between PP and Girl Scout councils included one or more of the following:

  1. Any troop in the council inviting PP to speak.
  2. Having scouts attend PP events to earn a badge.
  3. Co-sponsor Planned Parenthood event.
  4. Co-sponsor, with PP, a third-party event.
  5. Promotion of a PP event or event with PP participation.
  6. PP execs/board members serving on GS board.
  7. Giving award to PP executive.

American Life League strongly encourages parents to check out alternatives to the Girl Scouts of America.
