Teacher booted from Portland School District after protracted battle with Planned Parenthood

An exemplary math and computer science teacher has been unjustly escorted out of Benson High School by police following a protracted battle with school officials about Planned Parenthood’s presence in the school and its association with his students.

Bill Diss was notified on Tuesday after the last student left his class that he was being placed immediately on administrative leave “pending a recommendation to the superintendent that you be dismissed from your employment with Portland public schools for reasons that have been discussed with you.” The mild-mannered Mr. Diss told STOPP that he was given only a few minutes to gather his belongings before police escorted him out. He was ordered not to return to the Portland, Oregon, school where he has taught for 11 years.

Mr. Diss is an outstanding teacher, who recently was awarded certification and recognition as the only teacher in Oregon who is qualified to teach college level computer science to high school students for dual credit. He has taught at the college and high school level for a total of 18 years.

Planned Parenthood has been in pursuit of Mr. Diss since 2007 when he began organizing efforts to stop Planned Parenthood. A STOPP press release from February of 2009 noted that Planned Parenthood of Columbia Willamette wanted Bill Diss’ teaching license revoked. The press release quoted American Life League’s Jim Sedlak: “Bill has organized one of the most effective efforts against Planned Parenthood in the country. It’s no surprise Planned Parenthood will resort to anything—even going after his teaching license—in order to silence him.”

Bill was opposing, on his own time, outside of any school activities, the construction of a Planned Parenthood killing center in an African American neighborhood in Portland. The Planned Parenthood business was eventually built, and today targets minority women for abortions.

Planned Parenthood was unsuccessful in its revocation bid but, incredibly, a decree came from the school district that Bill could not indicate that he was a teacher at Benson or that he taught for the Portland schools when he was giving talks outside the school.

Things really started heating up again at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year when Planned Parenthood of Columbia Willamette began to push its Teen Outreach Program (TOP) in partnership with Benson High School. The program is fueled by a multi-million dollar Obamacare teen pregnancy prevention grant, funneled through a coalition of Planned Parenthood affiliates. Benson High is located in the inner city, where sixty-two percent of the students qualify for free or reduced price lunches.

On September 17, 2012, Planned Parenthood operatives entered Mr. Diss’ classroom where he was tutoring students in basic math skills and other subjects. They expected to be given the floor to recruit students for the Teen Outreach Program. Because Mr. Diss had been notified that TOP representatives were coming to speak to the class and they produced ID showing they were from Planned Parenthood rather than TOP, Mr. Diss asked them to leave his classroom. They left, and a few moments later the principal and vice principal came to remove Mr. Diss from class.

The next day he was forced to sit through a Planned Parenthood presentation. “They were extremely aggressive in obtaining the children’s signatures by promising them all sorts of gifts and cash,” Bill said. Planned Parenthood filed a formal complaint against Mr. Diss with the school. You can read STOPP’s coverage about the events of that day and the TOP permission forms here.

Mr. Diss later discovered that the TOP permission form that was sent home the first day of school to Vietnamese-speaking parents used his name in a way that made it seem that he approved of the program. Mr. Diss’ attorney sent a notice to Planned Parenthood and Portland Public Schools complaining of defamation and demanding a retraction of information they sent to parents that indicated he approved of Planned Parenthood and the TOP program. He also noted harassment, emotional distress, and civil rights violations by the school in persecuting him and his Christian faith—all of which have been ongoing since the beginning of the school year. The school never issued a retraction.

Since then, Mr. Diss has received biweekly letters from the school, in effect nit-picking his teaching skills and accusing him of things like too much repetition in his mathematics classes, where he was told he could not teach the multiplication tables to math deficient students and could not review factoring. Students were allowed to withdraw from his classes because they did not want to do the extra work required to bring them up to speed in math. He has been through a dozen administrative hearings this year. Two weeks ago he was informed that his contract will not be renewed next year. When he was booted from the school on Tuesday, the only reason given was “for reasons already discussed.”

It is outrageous that Mr. Diss—an outstanding, well-loved teacher—has been totally trampled by this school district at the behest of Planned Parenthood because he cares deeply about the welfare of his students, and for exercising his First Amendment rights to speak out about the injustice of having Planned Parenthood in the community and in the classrooms. The TOP program he objects to even allows students to leave the campus after hours with Planned Parenthood employees.

Let us not forget, Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette is the same organization that is behind the disgusting video website Take Care Down There that features skits with such titles as “Horse Penis Virus,” “Bring your sister,” “I didn’t spew,” “Hot & heavy,” “Let me do me,” “Threesome,” and the “Down There Song.”

This is the influence that Mr. Diss is fighting. And this is what he has been harassed, and summarily dismissed, for fighting. If you are an Oregon resident who is concerned about this huge injustice, contact your state legislators and the state board of education and pass this information along to them, asking that they help right this horrible wrong. In addition, please pass this information along to other residents of Oregon and ask them to take action.

Government and Planned Parenthood continue melding

One of the latest chapters in the saga of Planned Parenthood’s incestuous, self-perpetuating relationship with the government is playing out in Massachusetts, where State Representative Martha Walz this month took over the leadership of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM). She also became head of PPLM’s political advocacy machine, Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Walz resigned her seat in the senate mid-February to take over the top spot on the payroll of Massachusetts’ government-funded abortion giant.

Walz is an attorney and politician, which apparently makes her imminently qualified to serve as president and CEO of the tax-money-guzzling abortion and sex business that portrays itself as a healthcare organization. The position is a lucrative one. In 2011, the former PPLM CEO, Sarah Stoesz, sacked $268,710, putting her at the number eight spot on the hierarchy of highest paid Planned Parenthood CEOs.

It seems that legislators who scratch Planned Parenthood’s back stand to get repaid with remarkably high paying jobs that bring them into the top 1.5 percent or so of household incomes in the U.S., while at the same time availing Planned Parenthood of the political capital that only former longtime legislators can own.

According to the Boston Globe, “Heading up Planned Parenthood is a logical move for Walz. In 2007, she cosponsored a law expanding to 35 feet the buffer zones that keep demonstrators away from abortion clinics.” In reality, the buffer zones serve to keep abortion customers entering the facilities away from those who would offer them alternatives to abortion, very effectively cutting into Planned Parenthood’s bottom line.

“Little did I know . . .,” the Globe quotes Walz, “that I would one day be crossing that buffer zone on my way to work.”

Indeed.

Walz served three terms as a state representative and had begun her fourth when she walked off the job to run Planned Parenthood.

The Globe revealed Walz’s intent to influence legislation in favor of Planned Parenthood sex education in schools, and hurled barbs at pregnancy help centers, saying that as the Planned Parenthood CEO, Walz will have to deal with “the outfits masquerading as pregnancy advice centers that try to dissuade women from seeking abortions, sometimes through deception. And, since a goal of Planned Parenthood is preventing unwanted pregnancies, she’ll be pushing to improve the quality of sex education in schools.”

The fawning article closes with the zinger, revealing the real reason that Planned Parenthood hired a politician rather than a healthcare administrator to run the organization: “Under Walz,” the author says, “Planned Parenthood will be more political in general, focusing anew on bolstering candidates who support abortion rights. Under state law, she can’t lobby her old colleagues for a year. Then she’ll be back, sharp as ever and full of vim. But this time, she will be trying to influence legislation, not make it herself.”

Welcome to the new America, driven by legislators who work tirelessly to zap our First Amendment rights, our parental rights, even the right to life itself, in favor of legislation that props up the nation’s largest abortion chain.

Maybe Walz can’t lobby, but she can certainly work to get like-minded abortion zealots elected. In fact, in one of her first acts as the head of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, she endorsed pro-abortion candidate Edward Markey in his Senate bid. Markey has a 100 percent pro-abortion ranking from Planned Parenthood “for his voting record on women’s issues and abortion rights.”

“We are pleased to stand with the Planned Parenthood Action Fund in support of Congressman Markey, who is unwavering in his support for women’s health,” Walz said in a statement. “Massachusetts voters are proud of our long history of electing U.S. Senators who put smart policies ahead of political ideologies and who will not compromise on women’s access to healthcare. We must carry on that tradition and elect Congressman Markey.”

Every time another politician takes over a Planned Parenthood facility, and every time Planned Parenthood spends thousands of dollars to sway an election, America loses, while Planned Parenthood gets another leg up on self-perpetuation.

The beast has become the government, and the government has become the beast. Already there is no clear line of demarcation.

Call your legislators today and insist that they totally defund Planned Parenthood before it totally takes control of our country.

Texas progressing toward banning PP from schools

Texas parental rights advocates have set the wheels in motion in a bid to ban Planned Parenthood’s presence from public school sex ed programs.

HB 1057, dubbed the Texas Parental Control Accountability Act, was introduced this legislative session by State Representative Jeff Leach of Plano. The bill bans Planned Parenthood and other abortion perpetrators from providing human sexuality instruction or materials in Texas schools. It also requires that children be opted into, rather than out of, human sexuality instruction, and requires parents give written consent before their children can participate in such instruction from any individual or organization other than a faculty or staff member employed by the school district. You can read the entire bill here.

“Our children in public schools should not and must not be exposed to third parties that seek to teach misguided and unreliable sex education in classrooms,” said Representative Leach in a media release. “Additionally, Texas public schools should not be a marketplace for the abortion industry, and Texas taxpayers should not be funding abortion providers’ recruiting efforts. Parents have a right to know when third party groups enter our schools to teach on such a personal and private subject as human sexuality, and ultimately, should have the final say on the instruction provider and content. This common-sense legislation promotes parental control and accountability in the classroom.”

The Senate companion bill, S.B. 521, was approved by the Texas Senate Education Committee on March 12.

Planned Parenthood and its cohorts are up in arms and are fighting ferociously against the bill that would boot Planned Parenthood and its dishonest, morally corrosive materials from Texas public schools.

STOPP exposed the partnership between Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast and the University of Texas at Houston Prevention Research Center (UTPRC)—a revelation that helped parents jumpstart widespread opposition to Planned Parenthood’s participation in sex education in Texas.

Planned Parenthood and UTPRC went to work right away to try to hide the evidence, but STOPP has preserved it and distributed that and other evidence about the partnership nationwide to activists working to eliminate Planned Parenthood sex education from schools. The attempts to cover up the It’s Your Game curriculum, which was at one time available via the Internet, have been ongoing ever since STOPP began exposing it.

Still, as late as March 5, 2013, according to a Houston Chronicle report, Susan Tortolero, one of the authors of the UTPRC program, said Planned Parenthood “had nothing to do with the development or evaluation” of the curriculum.

Planned Parenthood sex ed halted again in North Dakota

Planned Parenthood is having a very bad year in North Dakota. Just when it thought it had prevailed for the second time in forcing its hedonistic sex education into the state against the will of parents and the legislature, it ran up against a very determined state legislature that continues to fight back.

STOPP reported in January that, at the urging of concerned parents, North Dakota state legislator Bette Grande took to the airwaves to say that Planned Parenthood has no business in the state and threatened to cut North Dakota State University’s state funding if it went forward with its Planned Parenthood partnership. The school and the abortion mogul were set to partner in a three year, $1.2 million federal PREP education grant that had been awarded in September, via Obamacare.

The sex program was scheduled to begin January 2013 in North Dakota, where the mandated, singular message to youth in the realm of sexuality education is abstinence. Soon after Grande’s promise to cut funding to the university if it proceeded with the Planned Parenthood partnership, the university’s president appeared on the same radio show and announced that the college was freezing the grant money and would probably return it to the federal government.

Enter the state attorney general, who a month later issued an opinion ruling that the program should go forward.

Not willing to allow Planned Parenthood access to children for its sex programs, the legislature is fighting back. According to the Fargo-Moorhead Inforum website, a measure just passed out of the House Human Services Committee that “would prohibit the use of government funds to ‘contract with, or provide financial or other support to individuals, organizations, or entities performing, inducing, referring for, or counseling in favor of, abortions.”

Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota sent out an emotional fundraising e-mail on Tuesday bemoaning the fact that it is now fighting against six bills in the abortion arena in North Dakota, while also facing fierce opposition from legislators over its plans to bring its sex ed programs into the state.

Congratulations are due once again to the parents of North Dakota, who are staying on top of Planned Parenthood’s efforts to impose its evil agenda on their children, and to the legislators who are responding so valiantly.

Protesting Planned Parenthood at the schools: Rockland Community College

While other members of the local 40 Days for Life team were providing prayer coverage outside Planned Parenthood in Spring Valley, New York, Eileen Peterson spent three hours on March 10 on a college campus, challenging Planned Parenthood’s presence at the Rockland Community College annual Youthfest.

Upon arriving, she found that Planned Parenthood employees had actually driven its bus inside the venue, so that rather than having a mere booth, PP had an eye-catching display that was impossible to miss. Outside the Planned Parenthood bus was a table strewn with literature. Some of the pamphlets on the table were “of pornographic nature,” according to Eileen.

Eileen wasted no time in setting up signs outside the school, right by the Rockland Community College sign, proclaiming “Planned Parenthood will kill 5,000+ babies this week,” and “Planned Parenthood is unsafe for women and girls.”

“Some minorities did not realize that the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, wanted to stop them from reproducing, which is why they are located in Spring Valley, New York,” Eileen said in an e-mail to STOPP. She recommended the video Blood Money to those passing by, and said that many motorists thanked her for being there.

We will never know who Eileen touched by her presence outside the college, but we do know that one brave woman with two signs faced off with the goliath Planned Parenthood and won, because the truth always prevails. We thank God for the bold witness of Eileen Peterson and so many other dedicated pro-life advocates who bring Our Lady with them each time they focus their attention on stopping Planned Parenthood!

Half of Iowa Planned Parenthood facilities cutting back hours

Following close on the heels of the closure of two Planned Parenthood facilities in Iowa, 40 Days for Life is reporting that about half of the Planned Parenthood facilities statewide have cut back their hours. Cutting hours is often a sign of impending closure of these facilities.

Here is the report from Shawn Carney:

Earlier during this campaign, I told you about a number of Planned Parenthood locations that were closing—including two in Iowa. A 40 Days for Life coordinator in Iowa now says other Planned Parenthood facilities are seeing a downturn in business—and cutting their hours of operation.

“Across Iowa, we’ve seen great results this spring,” said Jim in Cedar Rapids. “The Planned Parenthood abortion facility here quietly reduced their hours by 25 percent, which included remaining closed on Thursdays, after being open at least five days a week for many years.”

Jim said the center also cut its hours on Mondays and Fridays. “When Thursday came,” he said, “many clients encountered locked doors. They eventually saw the sign.”

Statewide, he said, about half of their sites have scaled back their hours—in addition to the two that closed last week. “Those closures cut over 45 more hours from their statewide hours,” Jim said. “This makes standing in the colder-than-usual weather worth it.”

The Sioux City facility, where 40 Days for Life vigils have been held in the past, was cut by 10 hours per week. “They also discontinued surgical abortions, due to the lack of an abortionist,” he said. “Medical abortions, likely via webcam, are still listed.”

Planned Parenthood in Red Oak, Iowa, has also cut its hours and is now open two days each week instead of three. “Currently,” said Rod, the local 40 Days for Life coordinator in Red Oak, “they are only open 11 hours per week.”

On-site prayer bears great fruit. Be sure you remember to Bring Jesus to Planned Parenthood through Mary each time you pray there. Thanks to the 40 Days for Life campaigns that take place nationwide, the prayer presence is stepped up twice a year in many locations. We thank God for all those who pray outside Planned Parenthood facilities during 40 Days for Life, as well as those who pray there year round. God is rewarding your sacrifices beyond measure.
