Abortion Causes 25% of All Deaths in United States

By Jim Sedlak

This year’s Academy Awards took place this past Sunday with a show full of political symbolism and the pushing of the progressive agenda.

One performance was even an attack on the National Rifle Association by a pair of rappers. Of course, the NRA has come under increasing attack from the Hollywood crowd because of the NRA’s support of the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. You know, the right to bear arms.

The wailing cry of those who think that the Second Amendment needs to be abridged is that gun violence causes too many deaths. The national statistics show that there are approximately 15,000 deaths a year from gun related violence. Unfortunately, that number has slowly risen in recent years. In an effort to put some significance to that number, the CDC reports that there are 2,712,630 deaths annually in the United States. Gun related deaths from all sources (violent acts, accidental discharge, suicides, etc.) total 38,000 and account for about 1.5 percent of all deaths.

The latest outrage stems from the most recent school shooting in Florida where 17 innocent human beings lost their lives because of one deranged shooter. The backlash has been tremendous, and people have pointed fingers in many directions—most especially at the NRA. This incident clearly prompted the performance of the rappers at the Oscars.

That performance, however, was nullified and made ridiculous by the presence of one individual on the stage for the attack on the NRA. That person was Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The fact that the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would allow the leader of the organization that commits the most egregious acts of mass murder in United States history to participate in a performance that is supposedly prompted by the killing of 17 innocent human beings in Florida is unbelievable. Planned Parenthood kills that many innocent human beings every 30 minutes of every day of every year.

The deaths of babies in the womb are not counted in the national statistics of deaths in the United States. Although the exact number of these deaths is not known, the widely accepted estimate is that there are 920,000 medical and surgical abortions in the United States each year. Each of these abortions kills an innocent human being.

If we add that number to the annual US death toll, there are about 3,632,630 deaths from all causes in the United States. Abortion can then be seen as accounting for 25 percent of all deaths in the United States each year. Richards’ organization runs the largest abortion chain and admits to committing 321,384 abortions a year.

What makes matters even worse—given the fact that the Oscar rappers were minorities and one of the other people standing on the stage was a cofounder of Black Lives Matter—is that Planned Parenthood kills at least 112,000 black babies every year. That’s over 300 innocent black lives snuffed out every day at Planned Parenthood. Does anyone in Hollywood care?

Shoot innocent people in schools, theaters, or on the streets and the Hollywood elite react with swift calls for “justice” and the banning of guns. Kill innocent human beings by abortion and not only do the Hollywood elite not care, but they are quick to shower gifts of money on the organization that does more of the killing than any other organization or individual.

Perhaps if Planned Parenthood’s abortionists found a way to commit abortions by shooting the innocent preborn children, Hollywood elites might finally get upset! Then we could get them involved in abolishing abortion in this great country and reducing the national death rate by 25 percent.

Planned Parenthood to Spend $20 Million on Elections in Eight States

Planned Parenthood announced this week that its political arms (Planned Parenthood Votes and Planned Parenthood Action Fund) will spend at least $20 million in just eight states to get its people elected to various governor and US Senate offices.

Outgoing president Cecile Richards believes she has built a political powerhouse at Planned Parenthood, and she has apparently convinced the organization’s board of directors of that fact. Part of believing that is thinking you can win any elections by throwing money and manpower at the campaign. This is exactly what Planned Parenthood, through its related political organizations, is intent on doing in 2018.

As you are aware, the United States Senate has 100 seats. The Republicans hold 52 of those seats and the Democrats hold 46. The other two seats are held by Independents who caucus and vote with the Democrats. In addition, two Republicans—Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine—almost always vote on Planned Parenthood’s side. So, when it comes to life matters, the Senate is basically split 50-50. When the vote is tied, Vice President Mike Pence casts the deciding vote—a vote that is always pro-life.

So, a primary target of Planned Parenthood is to get its people into a couple more Senate seats to ensure that the Senate will block any bills Planned Parenthood doesn’t like. After a review of the 2018 election field, Planned Parenthood has decided to focus on two seats currently held by Republicans. The first is in Arizona, where Republican senator Jeff Flake is retiring. The second Senate seat is in Nevada, where Planned Parenthood feels it has a real opportunity to oust Republican senator Dean Heller. Citizens in both Arizona and Nevada can expect to see numerous Planned Parenthood ads on TV and a full court press as Election Day nears.

In addition to the Senate elections, there will be gubernatorial elections in at least 36 states on November 6, 2018. As the Trump administration gives more and more power to the states to decide who in their state can receive federal taxpayer money, Planned Parenthood is becoming very worried. The two federal programs that provide the most money to Planned Parenthood are Medicaid (Title XIX) and the Title X family planning program. Based on changes already enacted, states have been given the administrative freedom to exclude Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers from those programs. As a result, Planned Parenthood is very concerned about the party affiliation of the states’ governors.

After evaluating the various races, Planned Parenthood has decided to spend money and exert influence on governor races in eight states: Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Four of these states (Florida, Michigan, Nevada, and Ohio) currently have Republican governors who are not seeking reelection. Two other states (Arizona and Wisconsin) have Republican governors who can seek reelection. Only two of the states selected by Planned Parenthood currently have Democratic incumbents. In Minnesota, the governor is not seeking reelection, while in Pennsylvania the governor may seek reelection.

As is the case in the Senate, Planned Parenthood has chosen governor races where it believes it has the opportunity to replace Republicans or where it has decided Democrat races are winnable but need help. Planned Parenthood has made it abundantly clear that the figure of $20 million is the starting point, and it is prepared to add more money into these eight states to win the elections.

If you live in any of these states, please do everything you can to stop any candidate who supports Planned Parenthood.

The Latest Warning Signs Come from Maryland, but Will Affect Every State

We reported in our last Wednesday STOPP Report that Planned Parenthood issued a press release in February that stated in part: “Today, Planned Parenthood, in conjunction with state lawmakers, advocates, and fellow advocacy groups, unveiled a sweeping plan to push initiatives that expand access to reproductive health care [abortion] in all 50 states.”

In response to this new thrust by Planned Parenthood, STOPP has begun a new project to monitor initiatives at the state level that present a real threat to the lives of preborn children and young people.

Last issue we warned about a bill passed in California that requires two state universities there to make the abortion pill available on all campus health centers for any student who asks for it. We expect that Planned Parenthood will push this kind of law in every state to greatly expand the number of abortion locations in the United States.

In the last two weeks, we became aware of another legislative initiative that has the potential to spread injury, death, and destruction across our country. This time, what we are seeing is a bill being pushed by Planned Parenthood in the state of Maryland. Planned Parenthood is actively supporting this bill (Senate Bill 686) that will require insurance companies to “provide coverage without a prescription for all contraceptive drugs AND DEVICES approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and available [by prescription and] over the counter,” and “may not apply a copayment or coinsurance requirement for a contraceptive drug OR DEVICE dispensed without a prescription . . . that exceeds the copayment or coinsurance requirement for the contraceptive drug OR DEVICE dispensed under a prescription.”

As most of you are aware, insurance companies that provide drug coverage normally do so only for prescription drugs. Even the popular Flex Spending Programs offered by many corporations changed their rules years ago to only pay for prescription drugs. They will not pay for over the counter drugs.

This bill will change that and will force insurance companies to pay for OTC drugs—but not all OTC drugs. Only the so-called “contraceptive drugs and devices”—the kind Planned Parenthood sells and pushes. Most of the reporting in the news media about this bill concerns the fact that the bill would force insurance companies to pay for condoms or other barrier methods. The rhetoric is that this is no big deal. What is often mentioned in passing is that it will also force insurance companies to pay for Plan B—which is also an OTC drug.

We all know that Plan B is an abortifacient. Many of the legal cases about Obamacare’s contraceptive coverage mandate were about Plan B and the fact that it kills babies in the womb. So this seemingly innocuous bill requiring insurance companies to pay for OTC contraceptive drugs and devices takes on a much greater urgency when we understand that these companies will be forced to pay for drugs that cause abortion.

There has been a significant trend in the last decade for the Food and Drug Administration to make many drugs available OTC. You can probably name a number of drugs your family takes that have gone from prescription to OTC in the last decade. There are many current prescription drugs (Mifepristone, oral contraceptives, IUDs, etc.) that could easily become OTC in the next few years. For decades, Planned Parenthood has pushed the FDA to make the birth control pill OTC—just as it is in Mexico. When the FDA approved Plan B as over the counter, it took away most of its arguments to keep the birth control pill a prescription drug, since Plan B is essentially a mega-dose of the pill.

This bill sets the stage to force insurance companies to pay for more and more abortion-causing OTC drugs. We expect to see similar bills introduced across America.

We encourage all of our readers in Maryland and across the country to fight vigorously against these bills. Once again, the lives of future generations will depend on it.

Let Us All Turn to God This Lenten Season

Twice a month you receive the Wednesday STOPP Report—a report filled with the evils that Planned Parenthood perpetrates on our world. You are one of the people standing in the way of Planned Parenthood’s all-out victory.

Over the years, the readers of the Wednesday STOPP Report have taken the lead in thwarting various Planned Parenthood initiatives. Some of Planned Parenthood’s plans you have stopped include the following:

  • In 1986, Planned Parenthood had a goal of mandatory K-12 sex education in every school district in the nation. You fought against it, and PP has never come close. Today, less than half of the states have mandatory PP-style sex ed and none are K-12.
  • Also, in 1986, Planned Parenthood set a goal of a school-based clinic in every school district. Few were ever installed and fewer still operate.
  • In 1992, Planned Parenthood had 922 clinics and announced a goal of 2,000 by the year 2000. It never had more than 938, and had 597 at the end of 2017.
  • In 2016, Planned Parenthood announced that “these doors will stay open.” It closed three dozen in 2017.

We are now approaching the middle of the Lenten season. Lent calls us to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. It is a time to reflect on why we do what we do and ask God for the strength to continue until His victory is won.

During our Lenten prayer time, we should focus on the Passion and death of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Obviously, Lent will come to an end in Holy Week, during which we recount the last earthly actions of Jesus before the Resurrection.

We know that those who fight Planned Parenthood come from many religious faiths. We encourage all Christians to use this time to pray and give yourself to God saying in your heart the words of the Apostle Paul: “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?” (Acts 9:6 Douay-Rheims Bible)

For those who are Catholic Christians, we do not have to wait for Holy Week to spend time reflecting on the Passion and death of Christ. We have the Sorrowful Mysteries of the rosary to guide us. The five decades cover the events from Jesus’ time in the Garden of Gethsemane, where He formally takes on all the sins of man, through the Scourging at the Pillar, the Crowning with Thorns, the Carrying of the Cross, and, finally His Crucifixion and Death. The following prayers to be said for the Sorrowful Mysteries are from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website:

Scriptural Rosary: The Sorrowful Mysteries

A Rosary for Life: The Sorrowful Mysteries

Another great way to contemplate the Passion and death of Jesus is through the Stations of the Cross. Many Catholic churches across the country publicly say the Stations on Friday evenings during Lent. This presents a great opportunity for us to gather together and follow Jesus through 14 specific points in His Passion. There are many different booklets on the Stations. Here are two versions you may want to consider (both are taken from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website):

Scriptural Stations of the Cross (based on St. John Paul II’s Good Friday, 1991, prayers)

Stations of the Cross for Life

Finally, for those readers who desire a much more detailed account of Christ’s Passion through the eyes of a visionary in a book that has a nihil obstat and an imprimatur, you may consider The Dolorous (Sorrowful) Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ from the meditations of Anne Catherine Emmerich (in the Table of Contents, click on THE PASSION).

Let us use these days of Lent to strengthen ourselves for the battle against Planned Parenthood that is sure to grow as Election Day 2018 draws closer.
