Planned Parenthood's next target--the Birth Control Industry

Planned Parenthood took its first public baby step in the last couple of weeks in an effort to become a major player in the birth control industry in the United States.

Before explaining that statement, let me first recount how Planned Parenthood is in the process of gaining control of the national abortion industry. Back in 1992, Planned Parenthood committed 8.6 percent of all the abortions in the United States with just a few abortion facilities. It set about to expand those numbers. Today, Planned Parenthood operates 51.1 percent of all the abortion facilities in the United States. More important is the fact that Planned Parenthood currently operates 85.7 percent of all the abortion pill facilities and created the telemedicine-abortion business for this market. It is conservatively estimated that Planned Parenthood takes in about $250 million of the 800-million-dollar abortion industry in the United States.

While making these major strides in taking over the nation’s abortion business, it has seen its number of medical facilities fall from 938 to 590. Planned Parenthood has been looking for a way to increase its birth control, and abortion, business despite the falling clinic numbers. Its answer is to create an app that would allow it to do both without the need for physical facilities. It has been working on this for several years and is now rolling out this digital product.

Planned Parenthood Direct is what Planned Parenthood is hoping will allow it to keep expanding its dominance in the abortion business, through more telemedicine abortions, as well as starting its expansion of its role in the overall national birth control business.

On the surface, Planned Parenthood Directappears to be simply an app that allows people to order birth control on their smart phone or computer and have the product shipped to them. But the real intent of this new “service” becomes clearer as you dig down through the process. You see, this is not just one Planned Parenthood app; it is the visible part of a deeply rooted, and cleverly engineered, layer of Planned Parenthood-created entities.

Let’s look at the layers. Planned Parenthood currently offers the app in 27 states. In 10 of those states, the person ordering must have a telehealth meeting with a medical professional before getting the needed prescription for the birth control drug. That service is provided by Kaleido Health Solutions. KHS says it is a telehealth company that . . . “exclusively provide(s) a telehealth solution for a national non-profit organization that is the leader in sexual and reproductive health care.” In other words, its only client is Planned Parenthood. This is not surprising, since KHS’ President & CEO, Jill Balderson, was, until 2017, Vice President of Healthcare Innovation for Planned Parenthood Federation of America. As you go to order birth control products on the app, you find a disclaimer from KHS: “Kaleido Health Solutions and its affiliates do not manufacture these medications or hold any intellectual property rights in any of the brands listed, which belong to their respective owners.” While this is technically true, you may wonder who does manufacture and own the rights to the products.

That takes us to some other layers. You see the rights to the birth control products are held by a company named Afaxys, Inc. Afaxys has three divisions: A pharmaceutical division to develop birth control products; a group purchasing organization to negotiate birth control prices; and an eMarketplace and Purchasing Portal, otherwise known as emapp®, that “is a procurement and purchasing program that enables online ordering, approval, and receiving.” Obviously, all three divisions of Afaxys are layers in this whole Planned Parenthood Directapp.

So, who is Afaxys? Well, Afaxys was created in 2008 and three of its co-founders were, or still are, connected with Planned Parenthood. The founding president and CEO of Afaxys was Ronda Dean, who worked for three years as vice president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Another co-founder was Sarah Stoesz, who was CEO of Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Christine Charbonneau, who is still CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and Hawaiian Islands as well as CEO of Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, was a cofounder of Afaxys, and chair of Afaxys’ board of directors. In addition to the co-founders, other former Planned Parenthood people have positions with the company and a number of Planned Parenthood affiliates have stock in Afaxys.

Thus, with a lot of details left out, from top to bottom, this Planned Parenthood Directscheme has Planned Parenthood influencing every step—from the original purchasing interface to the pill manufacturer. The final revelation is that the only 10 birth control products you can purchase from this app are those that are manufactured by Afaxys.

It appears clear that the release of this new app is Planned Parenthood’s first effort to begin to get a major position in the birth control industry in the United States. According to industry estimates, that is a $7.6 billion industry today and will escalate to over $10 billion by the middle of the next decade. You can bet that Planned Parenthood is looking at those numbers and planning to get itself a significant portion of that market.

Remember, every one of the so-called "contraception" pills kills babies during the first 7-8 days of life by thinning the wall of the mother's uterus, making it very difficult for the embryonic baby to implant.  This causes its death prior to implantation.

As Planned Parenthood moves into this market more strongly, it will still be the largest baby killing organization in the country; we just won’t be able to count the growing number of dead human beings.

Remembering 9/11/2001

Today, the nation commemorates the 18thanniversary of the terrorist attacks on America. In New York City, Washington, DC, and in a field in Pennsylvania, almost 3,000 innocent human beings lost their lives to the terrorists.

It is sobering to note that most students entering college this year were not yet born when the tragedy happened. All they know is what little they have picked up from books and annual memorials.

As we pray for all those who died that day, and the thousands who have died since from injuries suffered during the attacks, the search and rescue operations, and the clean-up, we want to pause and bring you a piece of information that is in danger of disappearing from history.

Today, it is a little remembered fact that, following the terrorist attacks, Planned Parenthood of New York City announced it would provide free abortions to all who had been affected by the attacks. So that history will not forget, we bring you excerpts from an article that first appeared in the Wednesday STOPP Report on November 1, 2011:

As Americans mourned the loss of life in the senseless and horrific events of September 11, 2001, Planned Parenthood was at work exploiting the tragedy to promote a deadly agenda of its own. On September 18, Planned Parenthood of New York City posted a press release which said, in part:

"To provide for the many New York women who have been displaced or may otherwise be in need due to the World Trade Center tragedy, PPNYC will be offering complete reproductive health care from September 18th through September 22nd free of cost. Any woman who has been unable to obtain care can visit any of our three centers for free comprehensive reproductive health services during this week, including GYN care, birth control, emergency contraception, and STD and HIV testing and counseling, among others."

STOPP called the PPNYC phone number listed on the press release and confirmed that the free services would also include abortion! On September 21, PPNYC posted another press release on its website which announced that PPNYC would extend the offer for free services until September 29. This release also said, "The response has been overwhelming. PPNYC health centers have been booked to capacity and have had 100% show rate for appointments."

How tragic! PPNYC's free abortions will only increase the death toll in New York. Planned Parenthood should be ashamed of itself, and no American should ever support this organization or its activities. PPNYC obviously made this offer in an effort to garner some cheap publicity during this time of national crisis.

This is not the first time Planned Parenthood has tried to exploit a tragedy. During the refugee crisis in Kosovo, Planned Parenthood thought the proper response was to provide people with emergency contraception (the morning-after pill). This drew blunt criticism from the Vatican, which noted that such pills were often abortive.

The loss of human life on September 11 was enormous. Certainly STOPP would not want to minimize this tragedy in any way, and we urge our supporters to keep the victims of terrorism in New York City, Washington and Pennsylvania in their prayers. But let us remember those in the womb who are also victims of terrorism. Where is the national outpouring of grief for them? Does anyone suppose a baby going through a partial birth abortion or a saline abortion or a suction abortion at a Planned Parenthood clinic suffers any less terror than did the victims of September 11?

We now know that Planned Parenthood reported that it killed 213,026 innocent human beings in its own abortion facilities in 2001—including the ones offering free abortions after 9/11. That is a death toll 71 times higher than that caused by the infamous 9/11 terrorists. According to Planned Parenthood’s last annual report, it killed 332,757 innocent human beings in 2017. That is 911 babies a day dying at Planned Parenthood.

Remember 9/11 . . . but don’t forget the 911 who will die today at Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood Comings and Goings

Updates in Indiana, California, and Ohio this week!

COMING:

Fort Wayne, IN, center—After merging with Planned Parenthood of the Greater Northwest and Hawaiian Islands earlier this year, Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky received almost one million dollars in cash. As a result, it has increased employee salaries, hired new employees, and, just this week, announced the reopening of its medical center in Fort Wayne. The center is located at 2930 Lake Avenue and local pro-lifers are already out in force protesting at the new site.

Compton, CA, center—True to its nature, Planned Parenthood opened a new abortion center in Compton, a city with a high Black and minority population. Planned Parenthood cited the “poor people” in the area as “needing” its services. From its beginnings, Planned Parenthood has maintained that communities are poor because they have too many children. It tries to convince local residents that, if they would stop having children, they would get out of poverty. To this end, Planned Parenthood announced it would include Medical Abortions among its list of “services” at the Compton site. The center is located at 4402 East Compton Blvd., Suite #104.

GOING:

Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio Region announced this week that it is closing two centers in Cincinnati, Ohio, onSeptember 20, 2019. The centers are;

  • Springdale (Jean K. Spritz Center) located at 290 Northland Blvd.45246
  • Western Hills (Mary M. Yeiser Center) located at 2016 Ferguson Road 45211

For more information on these closings, see our article, Planned Parenthood closing two Ohio centers, in this issue of the Wednesday STOPP Report.

Planned Parenthood closing two Ohio centers

Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio Region (PPSWOR) announced this week that it is closing two clinics in the Cincinnati suburbs.

Kersha Deibel, president and CEO of PPSWOR, issued a statementto ABCNews saying, “These closures are the result of years of attacks on our ability to provide reproductive health care. Ohio politicians have passed 22 anti-reproductive health measures in recent years, including a defunding bill that went into effect earlier this year. Then came the changes to the Title X program, from an administration that has made it clear that it wants to force out trusted health centers that provide evidence-based, comprehensive reproductive health care. These layered attacks in a hostile environment forced us to make some really tough decisions."

While Planned Parenthood is crying that these closing are a devastating blow, the facts are that Planned Parenthood had seven centers in the Cincinnati area and these closures mean it still has five left. In addition, as was pointed out by MRCTV, “While Planned Parenthood claims the closings will leave countless Ohio women without health care, a quick search on Google maps shows more than a dozen pregnancy-related health centers—many of them offering free services through faith-based groups—scattered throughout the immediate area.”

Having been forced to close these centers because they are no longer profitable, Planned Parenthood is using it as a convenient battle cry against any politician who does not toe the line. We would not be surprised to see Planned Parenthood-paid protestors carrying “Remember Cincinnati” signs in future protests.

The facts are that pro-lifers in Ohio have done a great job fighting Planned Parenthood in the streets and in the state legislature. STOPP received a note from Citizens for Community Values in Columbus emphasizing that “Because of the pro-life leadership of people like President Donald Trump, Governor Mike Dewine, Speaker of the House Larry Householder, and Senate President Larry Obhof, two more deceptive and dangerous Planned Parenthoods can no longer harm women and children. Instead of Ohio taxpayer dollars flowing to the abortion industry, now more funds can go to clinics that actually help women and low-income families. In fact, there are 378 Federally Qualified Health Centers in Ohio that provide an entire host of medical care to families, without also pushing harmful and deadly abortion.”

The HILL reports that “Republican legislators in Ohio cut about $600,000 in state funding to Planned Parenthood this year after . . . The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in March upheld a 2016 Ohio law banning preventive health funding from going to organizations that perform or promote abortions.”

Ohio Right to Life’s Mike Gonidakis said, in an official statement from Ohio Right to Life: “Today’s announcement is more encouraging news that Ohio women are simply walking away from Planned Parenthood and securing real healthcare elsewhere. Planned Parenthood’s abrupt closure of these facilities comes right after their recent refusal to comply with Title X requirements, a move that revealed their number one priority: protect their abortion business at all costs. It’s obvious that Planned Parenthood needs women more than women need them. With other options outnumbering Planned Parenthood 17 to 1, Ohio’s healthcare community stands ready to support all women in the greater Cincinnati area."

Congratulations to the numerous opponents of Planned Parenthood in Ohio. For many years, you have been fighting the nation’s largest abortion chain with creative ideas and persistence. We know that you will continue your inspiring work until Ohio, like Wyoming and North Dakota, becomes a Planned Parenthood-free state.
